Curfew lifted in Skardu as internet, flights restored; schools to reopen while universities remain closed

Skardu, March 11: The Government of Gilgit-Baltistan has announced the lifting of the curfew in Skardu that had been in place since March 1 following recent law and order concerns in the district.

According to an official press release, the curfew had been imposed along with the suspension of internet services, closure of flight operations, and shutdown of educational institutions in view of the prevailing security situation. Considering the current circumstances and the difficulties faced by the public, the government has now decided to restore normal activities.

As part of the new measures, the curfew has been lifted, internet services are being restored, and flight operations to and from Skardu are resuming.

However, to maintain public order, Section 144 has been imposed across Skardu district. Under this provision, all forms of processions, public gatherings, and rallies are strictly prohibited, while the display of weapons has also been banned. Law enforcement agencies will continue checking at various checkpoints until the situation fully returns to normal.

The government has urged residents of Skardu to strictly follow the law and cooperate with security agencies. Authorities have warned that strict legal action will be taken against any violations, and restrictions may be reimposed if any untoward incident occurs.

Meanwhile, the government has also announced that all public and private schools across Skardu district will reopen from tomorrow and resume normal academic activities.

However, the University of Baltistan and the Karakoram International University (KIU) will remain closed until further notice. Students, parents, and staff have been advised to follow government instructions and stay updated regarding further announcements.
